Has been the talk for a while now, so no real surprise. Dissapointing to see Arnold in the A-League though...

Central Coast Mariners founding coach Lawrie McKinna is about to announce he will be standing down from the final year of his contract, to be replaced by former Socceroos boss Graham Arnold.

McKinna will move 'upstairs' into a new role as head of Football Operations, and will also assume some commercial responsibilities.

The Mariners will complete their worst-ever season when they play their final fixture in Wellington on Friday, and McKinna privately concedes it has been the hardest year of his coaching career.

Arnold will replace McKinna as soon as he completes his commitments with the Socceroos at the World Cup.

Arnold has agreed to a three-year deal, returning to club coaching after 10 years with the national team, including a brief spell as head coach for the 2007 Asian Cup.

The former Socceroos striker will assist Pim Verbeek in South Africa before assuming his responsibilities with the Mariners, which is likely to involve a major overhaul of the squad.

Both the Mariners and Football Federation Australia are expected to issue formal statements shortly.

I guess most knew it would be the case.

TERRIBLE appointment though. Just terrible.

To me it's just another reason to continue the crusade against our coaching establishment and call for a revolution.

I am sure in Japanese culture, getting moved upstairs in an office would be very embarrassing and akin to being put out to pasture....ready for retirement.
