Good to see Van Dijk on the sheet as we need our strikers to go into the season with goals under their belt. Nothing like a bit of confidence.

The only way is up! United surely can do better in V6.

could be my biased opinion, but i have been at both games and think he looks well under cooked... he had an assist last week, one thing out of many few that he did. and even Friday just gone's match, thought his only 2 moments were really the assist and goal. tho i was happy he struck the goal with his right foot, was waiting for him to cut to his left.

What were people thought on the trialists? Any stand outs? Anyone bring some that we don't have or need?

I was reasonably impressed with Lombardo (I think it was him). He looked quite tidy in the centre midfield and seemed to gel well with the others. None of the other trialists really stood out for me. Although not given much time, Montorosso lost the ball to much for my liking, he really needs to take a step up.

I missed our goal due to bladder demands, but i heard it was a cracker.

I wouldn't of said we dominated all game, i wouldn't say we really dominated at all. If we play like that all season, we will be wooden spooners for the 2nd year. Hardly any attacking or positive movement until after the break. Pretty sure we only had one shot in the 1st half?? Corner that Serg didn't really connect with, that was tipped over. Constantly moving backwards, which i strongly support if it's to re-structure, but we were mostly lacking in vision. The runs were there, just not met with a pass a lot of the time.

I've been happy with all our other pre-season matches, but tonight was concerning. And i don't even care about the scoreline, the general play & formation wasn't up to scratch. Wasn't happy with Cass, Shin looked much better but still not seniors level. Would say Mullen was best on ground.

also like to add that Ramsey played the second have

he put in quite a few decent crosses into the box but no one was in there to connect

also thought that pants had a decent second half

dont forget the #17 he missed an open goal to equalize.. thank god he missed or we wouldnt have seen van dijks screamer

and i thought our keeper was really good.. til the end. letting in 2 quick goals.. i think the last 1 should have been saved.

the 3rd goal was in slow motion, i swear lol. that was disappointing. the guy was really nervous (which is fair enough) and didn't get a touch until like the 23rd minute which wouldn't of helped. he didn't do terrible, but there really wasn't much for him to do to look outstanding. are we trialling him for 1st keeper if Eug goes? if so, i'm not sure about that... looked young, maybe for the youth?

shin has great skills and potential, but he just doesnt seem to understand whats happening around him, indoor would almost suit him better lol, i think he may be done here, poor performance infront of the new coach just looked lost, plus he is taking up a visa spot

the new kid was much more impressive, very leckie like never stopped running, seems to have ticker.

even though flores was not at his best he played out a full game which was positive, and reinforced the fact that even on his bad days he can break a game open with a deadly ball out of no where.

HUGHES!!! seems to have the support of the fans all of a sudden, i agree with some of you that he comands a fair bit of resect on the field now, very talkative and forceful.

we seemed to be more so 433 then 451 most of the time compared to vidmars more defensive style, but its still early days coach and players still working themselves out .

LMFAO at the guys doing a vuvuzeuala chant of sort at free kicks HILARIOUS , i can imagine that catching on

So is there anyway of knowing how we're going tonight? Why doesn't adelaidenow do a live blog tonight instead of for ACL games where everyone is either there or watching it on tv :bang:

Adelaide downed by Fury in Townsville

Friday, 30 July 2010

The Reds and North Queensland battle it out at Brolga Park. Adelaide United FC failed to finish its pre-season campaign on a winning note after going down 0-1 to North Queensland Fury at Brolga Park in Townsville tonight.

A 70th minute strike from Fury midfielder Adam Casey proved the difference in what was the Reds’ final hit out before their Hyundai A-League season opener against the Newcastle Jets next Friday night at Hindmarsh Stadium.

With passionate Reds supporter, Federal Sports Minister Kate Ellis MP, watching on from the stands, United ran out for just the second time under new Head Coach Rini Coolen.

The first half was a keenly contested affair as players from both sides pushed their case to be considered for a starting berth in Week 1.

Despite plenty of end to end action, the closest either side came in the opening 45 minutes was when the Fury’s Chris Grossman broke loose on the counter in the 38th minute, but he could not capitalise on the chance as it remained nil all at half time.

Short term signing Cameron Watson was given his first run as he was introduced for Adam Hughes at the start of the second half.

Keen to impress in front of their home fans, the Fury continued to probe forward after the break and in the 61st minute they were awarded a penalty when Reds defender Nigel Boogaard brought down Isaka Cernak.

However, despite making just his first appearance of the pre-season, Eugene Galekovic proved he was still at the top of his game as he reeled off a fine save from Gareth Edds’ spot kick to keep scores level.

As both teams searched for an opening goal, the deadlock was eventually broken in the 70th minute when Casey launched a shot from 25 yards that managed to beat Galekovic.

Coolen brought on young trialist Bradley Norton and Inseob Shin soon after but they could not inspire the Reds to an equaliser as the Fury held onto their lead to the final whistle.

Despite the loss, Coolen was not too concerned by the result as he continues to mould his game style into the squad and have the Reds ready for next Friday night’s match against the Jets.

Tickets for the August 6 encounter and AUFC 2010/11 memberships are available now through Ticketek.

Not a good result, given that that was close to our first team (minus Leckie and Dodd).
