Has anyone seen the article's quoting how much money we could make if our World Cup Bid is successful.

However what should be argued is the poor-poor legacy that will be left for the World Game should our bid succeed.
Take a look at the proposed stadiums. http://www.australia2018-2022.com.au/au ... diums.aspx

Why as the FFA gone into bed with the AFL and is even considering using Adelaide Oval, Geelong and Gold Coast.
The latter two are of extreme concern. Why would you not upgrade Gold Coast's rectangular Skilled stadium and
Melbourne's new rectangular stadium. Also Adelaide Oval's current design with no northern stand and gapping holes
between the grand stands and irregular heights of roof etc should not be acceptable.

If so much money would be made from hosting the event, then surely a few well designed rectangular stadiums
are the answer and would leave a lasting legacy for the World Game in Australia.

The legacy is more likely to be in terms of investments along the lines of improved mass transit systems than in the stadiums themselves

Also in grass root's level. World Class training centres will need to be developed for all visiting nations.
you would assume that you would have a couple in each state which would then be used for youngsters growing up.

I think you'll find that 2 of Geelong Stadium, Gold Coast Stadium, Townsville and Adelaide Oval will be the ones to be cut from the list. Just remember that it is only necessary to have 10 stadiums. I reckon Geelong and Gold Coast will be the ones to be cut. You also kind of get the feeling that FIFA will want something to be done with Adelaide. Quite frankly, it isn't World class standard for a FIFA World Cup.

large football market in Victoria though, i doubt they want to give up on Geelong for ticket sale reasons.

From what i have read:

[*]the new stadium in melourne cant be extended because the roof is not compatible

[*]Gold coast stadium is built on foundations for 30,000 and cant be extended

The biggest concern for us is Adelaide Oval but perhaps we dont get big enough crowds to warrant a new stadium considering we dont sell out hindmarsh. Its hard not to be biased when thinking about these things.

I dont think our crowds will have much of a bearing. Newey have smaller crowds than us and are getting a revemped stadium, Townsville have smaller crowds than us and are getting a revamped stadium, Perth have smaller crowds than us and are getting a brand new stadium, I'm sure there are other cases as well.

I hope the legacy of a World Cup being held here will not be new stadiums or infrastructure (although that is all good) but a much needed boost for the game here. Yes I know we have come a long way in five years, but will still have not captured the hearts and minds of the nation, and are still only considered a minor sport. This might be the final push we need to cement ourselves in the Australian sporting landscape.

I'd say football is now a bigger sport than Rugby Union, which has gone way down since 2003. The ARU really rested on their laurels after hosting the Rugby World Cup.

When the USA got to host '94, setting up the MLS was a prerequisite.

I heard recently the RU gets a $100m a year for its TV rights. I'm not sure if thats split between south africa, New zealand and us or if its just for Australia, but its still much more than the $170m we got over 7 years wasnt it?

Thats because there are no other options for Newy and Townsville. Perth was going to be multi-sport stadium but primarily a AFL stadium. I agree it will be a good thing and obviously the FFA feels the same way.

For the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, Durban and Cape Town's original stadiums were put forward, but it did not meet the appropriate criteria for a World Cup Stadium. As I said before, I think you will this may be the case with Adelaide. FIFA will want a new stadium, if Adelaide want to be a part of the 2022, should we receive the rights. This may also be the case for Melbourne.

Yes but the stature of the Wallabies has declined considerably in the last 5 years. Also factor in the fact Rugby is now a professional game, and this is bringing big changes to it. The talent in Rugby Union isn't coming through- but they were obsessed with bringing in Rugby League converts for a while, which itself was short-sighted.
